My profile page looks so festive thanks to the lovely snowflakes and gorgeous stocking that I got from my lovely f-list. I sent out snowflakes to my own f-list, but I was terribly sleep deprived and rather out of it...so if I missed you and you'd like one, just speak up in the next 32 hours. XD

I'm way behind on Advent. I might have to do it retroactively because I'm studying tonight, partying tomorrow night and having a vacation from the 9th to the 20th (Barcelona, Marrakech, and London again) after which I return to California to be smushed with love and food.

So, I had the notion that I might skip the usual advent calendar this year, but I reminded myself that that'd be crazy. It might be a bit weird since days will be skipped owing to travel and such, but...here's today's offering and I will put up this year's request post in a little while.

After Christmas Cards

  • Nov. 20th, 2009 at 11:38 AM
I'm being realistic. There's no way I'm going to be able to get anything sent out to arrive for Christmas, but I really liked sending stuff out last year so...

Anyone want an After-Christmas Card?

Leave your name and address here (yes, comments are screened) and if you're doing something similar link me please?

I haven't slept since I got back from my vacation and I'm trying to catch up with my f-list (if you guys want to pimp or point me to something of vital worth...please, do so.) which is how I stumbled across this little gem.

Take one bored and disappointed trelali who's been told there's no SPN, add socks (STRIPEY ONES), a fondness for bitchy!Sam, and a love of Dean/Castiel and you get:

Random Fic Ideas

  • Sep. 15th, 2009 at 12:26 AM
So, I'm just scribbling ideas that pop into my head because they'd never get expressed otherwise. There are no plans to write any of them and if anyone wants to use one then I approve 10000%.

Tim/Tony: AU/Fairytale Fic Tony is trying to get from under his father's thumb but the man's a Lord and he won't be opposed by his rebellious and childish son. Tony has to marry and provide for the continuance of their bloodline, and perhaps get a dowry to fill their coffers. The McGee family has a comely daughter. Tony refuses until he catches sight of the even comelier son.

Tim/Tony: Tim's drunk and being hit on by a guy! Tony to the rescue! Only, McPissy is angry because Tony is cockblocking. Tony's surprised to find out McNotsoStraight is slightly bent, but whatever, he's still the same McGeek, right? Only, it seems that now that he's looking for it, an awful lot of guys are sending McGee some might appreciative looks and Tony doesn't like it. Not that he's jealous, or anything.

SG-1/SGA/NCIS/BONES/LEVERAGE: CRACK. Take your pick, either the geeks get together or the action-jocks to brag about their partners. (Jack/Sam/Daniel, John/Rodney, Tony/Tim Booth/Bones, Eliot/Hardison) Bonus points if the geeks makes fun of Sam and Daniel for having to share a grunt or Jack bragging to the jocks about having two geeks (which is answered by the others as them having such awesome geeks that they don't need 2 to solve their problems, one is enough. What's wrong with his geeks that they need another geek to help out?)

Supernatural/Lord of the Rings: Dean/Castiel. Why do the time-travel, universe hopping fics not explore some more outlandish themes? Like, Cas and Dean get zapped back to Middle Earth. Does Cas pwn Elves?

Supernatural/Joan of Arcadia: Dean/Castiel. Joan gets another task from God. You see there are these guys and they're totally oblivious...Matchmaker!Fic

Holy shit. Supernatural. No spoilers

  • Sep. 11th, 2009 at 3:16 AM
That is all.

It's like fanfic, seriously. I've seen these plots before. I'm surprised but only by how awesome it was.

Have to see it again!

*glomps darksilvercat* Thank you, bb.

It's 3 a.m. going to sleep. Stuff tomorrow.

Also, about the Twitter thing. WTF, twitter? Jeez. Context, people. Why does P Diddy have more clout than the poor people being called Satanists. Whatever, PDiddyissscaredofhistv. Plus, show has me flailing still.

Random Awesome

Okay, so we spent the entire day out around the Globe Theatre and Southwark Cathedral. We had a tour, ate, walked, and then went to the Globe for the 7:30 p.m. showing of "As You Like It" which was so very cool. Of course, my feet ached mightily by the end of it.

The random awesome came at the end. When we went to the office area, or whatever it's called, the group noticed that the actors came that way and they got shots with the female leads. Then they decided to mob the rest of the actors too. I was tired, went down to the ground/first level and sat. I noticed that the guys who played Orlando (who made me blink and go: o.o because the guy looked like freaking David Tennant. WITH THE HAIR AND EVERYTHING!!) and Silvius left through a door on the 2nd floor. Four people came down and we decided to leave because the rest of the group was going to wait for the guy who played Oliver.

So we walked.

And were overtaken by Orlando and Silvius.

Someone made a comment that they were roomies. I thought something decidedly more slashy and was so very pleased when someone spoke up and said "or more than roommates".

They took a different street and we went to our bus stop.

There were 5 of us, 2 guys, three girls.

Someone makes a "Hey, there's Silvius!" comment and I think they're joking but one of the guys shouts "Nice meeting you again!" and then he backtracks and says ["I mean, good job."]

Of course, I'm not much better. I coouldn't turn the sarcasm off and said "No." when he said we could probably tell he was 1/2 American.

I feel I redeemed myself by asking whether he'd majored in theatre at Georgetown (no, he got a Pscyh degree).

The poor guy looked awkward, said bye, and walked away to go catch the tube presumably.

We start speculating on whether he'd been planning to take the same bus but changed his mind about riding along with crazy American fen at 11p.m.

We teased the poor guy about scaring him off with his enthusiasm (saying hello from waaay down the street) and how he'd probably be mugged because he was running away instead of taking the bus.

We laughed and joked on the entire bus ride. It was so hilarious and we were being stereotypically loud Americans XD. Definitely a bonding experience.

Fanmix: Moments of Us

  • Aug. 2nd, 2009 at 7:49 PM

Title: Moments of Us
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Type: Fanmix
For: darksilvercat (Happy Christmas in July/August)
Prompt/Theme: Each song captures a moment, a thought, an emotion, or something like it between Dean and Castiel. It could be from the screen or just the minds of the fangirls. There's no particular order so choose what best suits you. Also, pay attention to the lyrics. You might think they apply to Dean rather than Castiel (or vice-versa) and then with further scrutiny...
Notes: I really enjoyed doing this because I wanted to find beautiful songs for Dean and Castiel and even then a blurry? hint of sadness/pain/loss wriggled in. But you can't have love without loss or doubt, right? Please, leave a comment about what you think of it.

Fanmix: Forbidden Fairytale

  • Jun. 14th, 2009 at 12:53 AM

Title: Forbidden Fairytale (Instrumental Mix)
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Type: Fanmix
For: nabichansaotome
Prompt: "forbidden love"
Notes: For: The Dean/Castiel Co-Op Swap. I really tried to get that sad, forbidden love thing going on and it works if you just listen to the mix. But, the story I added here sort of cancels it out. If you just want sad romance-y stuff download and listen. If you'd like something a bit more amusing/happy-ending-ish read the story.

Click...Collapse )

For: The Dean/Castiel Co-Op Swap. Since I have no artistic ability I have to turn to my only option, putting my songs together. How come no one told me fanmixxing was hard? And addictive? Hours!

Title: This Thing Between Us. You, Inside Me.
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Type: Fanmix
For: birddi
Prompt: I'd love a naughty fanmix for writing Cas/Dean moments. Anything with hard beats or dripping with sex would be great.
Notes: As soon as I saw that birddi had requested a mix (and because I have an unlikely amount of sex songs...) I knew I had to do it. Lyrics added for the most appropriate Dean/Castiel bits. If there aren't then it was chosen purely for teh SEX.

EXTRA: birddi was set on having "Pretty When You Cry" by VAST but it's not part of my library. If anyone can provide me/her with it to finish off the mix I'll gift them with adoration and one of my wishes or fic if you're not into the fandom.

Sleepy, busy, bogged down, etc.

  • Jun. 3rd, 2009 at 10:10 PM
And so, the race begins. I equate finals with papers as well as exams and mine begins tomorrow. Wish me luck, I'm going to be more MIA than usual. Not that you'd ever notice because I'm such a lurker. (Tangent: My 'o' button is wonky and reproducing making my wooords weird.)

I wouldn't have posted except I was just so amused by something that happened today and I'm trying to get into the habit of posting more.

5 p.m.: Last class of the day and we're all waiting for a peer to start with her presentation on the game of Chess. She shuts the door, turns off the lights and rocks her subject so much. We spend the rest of lecture on other presentations and then further discussion.

6:20 p.m.: Freedom! I, being the scuttler that I am, make it to the door first and twist the knob.

Houston, we have a problem.

Okay, the building is old and maybe my hands are slippery?

Try to turn the doorknob again.

"Umm...you try," I urge the guy next to me as my tone of DOOOM says that Murphy is laughing his ass off.

"You're kidding," he answers with hopeful disbelief as he tries for his own turn. His bitterly thwarted turn.

"What's wrong?" Says Guy #2.

"Door's locked," I say, "Wanna try?"

He does so. Epic fail of an attempt.

"We need an Arthur over here!" I ramble as I knock on the door FROM THE INSIDE.

The rest of the class (and Prof.) [All, 12 of them] seem to realize that there are ominous happenings in their midst.

Someone goes for the phone to call someone for help because we are LOCKED INSIDE A CLASSROOM ON THE SECOND FLOOR WITH NO OTHER EXIT.

"Let me see, all I need is: my Costco card--well, my wife's Costco card," says our savior. With a jiggle of plastic and a twist of the doorknob...FREEDOM!!! CLEAR AIR (WELL, IT'S CALIFORNIA SO THAT'S NOT VERY ACCURATE BUT THE HORROR OF MY IMPRISONMENT MADE EVERYTHING SEEM SO MUCH SWEETER, SO MUCH MORE VIBRANT.)

"That was freaking AWESOME!" I cheer giddily as I rush to catch my bus.

Sadly, our savior received no applause, no accolades, and no tribute, but he's the guy I want with me if we ever get locked in the library/mall/closet/bathroom/etc.

Of course, this is also the guy that suggested we break the door down before arriving at the creditcard solution.
So, I've been kind of MIA. Heh. Sorry. I'm trying to get back in the game! My writer's block is dissolving a little.

I'm tackling the fic I owe people. I want to be finished with Sweet Charity fic by the end of June at the latest. Then, if it's running I'll definitely sign up for [info]dw_cross, for my 3rd run. Which is mind bogglingly awesome.

Also, since it's the last year...I'm considering signing up for [info] - communitysgabigbang. I'd be committing to 40,000 words which would be the biggest I've aspired to.

But I kind of want to write this niggling SGA/Helling idea that's been bugging me.

Shoot me?

ETA: OR another crossover that deals with the SG-1 device, the 'Clava Thessara Infinatus'. Centered in SGA, with a good dose of SG-1 and Doctor Who and a smidge of Buffy and Sailor Moon.

  • May. 17th, 2009 at 10:08 PM
I have a final paper for one of my classes. I get to choose the subject but I've no idea what I want to do. I want it to be fun and interesting.

The gist of it is that I have to choose something (film, painting, comic, etc.) that I can deconstruct.

For example: We did this in class, discussed the various layers of what meaning and cultural information is present in the picture. To understand the nuances of the message you would need knowledge of at least three different levels: Star Wars, da Vinci's Last Supper, and Christianity/The Bible.

We also deconstructed "The Day After Tomorrow" and made references to the Atlantis myths and those of Babylon as well as recognizing various symbols and signifiers whose presence were culturally relevant.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a topic?

I've thought about doing Stargate (SG-1 or Atlantis) but I'd need a specific episode (I only have to write 8 pages).

Do the Supernatural people have an episode chock full of stuff? I want to say Lucifer Rising just because it's fresh on my mind but are there meatier episodes with lots of cultural and mythical references?

I also considered Sailor Moon because of the definite Western influences seen in the Silver Millennium and the Serenity/Endymion romance.

I'm also considering Hellsing because of the Alucard angle.

And Doctor Who (Parting of the Ways, maybe?).

Any thoughts?

On a personal note: Holy hell, my cousin (not the pregnant one, her sister) is getting married! Sadly, I'll be in England while she's tying the knot. In three months

Seriously, I had a completely different and still awesome idea, but then another bunny snuck up on me and...well, this is the end product.
2. Thanks to goddess47 who was awesome enough to beta this for me, but while she was doing her thing my bunny wouldn't let up so I added another 1000 or so words.
3. This is set up so that I could, conceivably, add more scenes here and there. There are a lot of scenes and conversations that weren't added, but could've happened.
4. I played around with the format, how each scene is apart and not just compiled into one narrative. It was a pain but I hope it adds to the story.

Apparently it's estimated that Cali. will be one of the hot spots for the "Swine" flu (can I just say how ridiculous I find that name?).

Well, crap.

I'm not particularly worried, but crap.

I wonder if there's a certain group it's more likely to affect like the young or the old.

I'm waiting to see if people will wear masks on campus.

It really seems like a lot of sensationalism. I've not gotten the flu in years if ever (at least not that I can remember) and I'm generally very healthy and don't get struck down my illness. Even when living in close quarters at the dorms with two room mates who are feverish and miserable.

I really should finish my essay. -_-;

waking is such sweet sorrow

  • Apr. 29th, 2009 at 9:42 PM
I would like to take a moment to recount a dream I had last night because it made me happy when I woke up and I actually remembered it.

So, I have the feeling I'm at a convention. Mostly because of that sense that you know what's going on though it hasn't been explicitly stated. Anyway, I'm at the last row, with the wall to my back. On my left is Joe Flanigan, on my right is David Hewlett pretending to be Rodney McKay. I find nothing odd about this and simply watch the stage.

There's a brain shift and instead of David, Joss Whedon is next to me and he has a mic stand and is holding a black dress. I don't know why. He makes a comment to me about having lost so much weight that he could probably fit into it. I reply: "Watching Joss Whedon in drag makes everything better." with the various meanings attached to that statement: that the person watching a Whedon show would be in drag and it would make the viewing fantastic, that Joss Whedon in drag would be hilarious, etc.

Scene shift and it's Rodney McKay(100%) again and he's being appraoched by stoopid people. In order to prevent such an atrocity, I grab his attention and introduce him to the guy on my left. Bruce Fucking Wayne. And Rodney starts to talk science with him (something about crystals and coral? TARDISes?). Bruce busts out with a note pad and starts writing  stuff down then Rodney takes it, corrects it and doesn't deliver a scathing comment on his stupidity. Or recognize that he's in the presence of Batman.

I simply watch with fangirlish glee.

That was an awesome way to wake up.

  • Apr. 29th, 2009 at 3:30 AM
That is just awesome. All my stuff was imported over from LJ to DWth in less than 20 minutes! O.O *is impressed*

And I'm now crossposting because I found the tab to do it with. *is pathetic*

I really want more icons but we'll see whether I can afford it come the 30th.

I watched Spartacus and Gladiator tonight/yesterday whatever.

Okay, now I want a daemon.

  • Feb. 21st, 2009 at 1:41 PM

Your result for The Golden Compass Daemon Test...

Independent Soul.

You are calm and logical, but not unemotional. You are an introvert, at heart, preferring to read alone than be subjected to the crush and noise of a big party or bar. You have a few friends and family, whose presence you welcome - to a point. Even they can wear on your nerves eventually, and you need to retreat back into your personal space for a while so you can recharge. Your energy comes in bursts, after which you need a long nap or a couple of evenings at home to recuperate.

You are comfortable with yourself, and reasonably confident. You want the friendship and goodwill of others, but you are not willing to sacrifice your principles in order to get it. If your close friends need something that you can provide, however, you will be the first to offer it.

You are a good and sympathetic listener, and are aware of your friend's emotional states. With your very close friends, you will open up, but rarely - you don't like to burden people with your problems. At the same time, though, you are honest and are not willing to alter the truth for the sake of convenience. Among strangers you are reserved, and may resort to making jokes to disguise your true feelings.

While you are not afraid of conflict, you do not seek it, either. When you are hurt or insulted, you feel that you have a choice to make. You can choose to take the up on it and defend yourself, or you can let it pass. Your decision may depend on how well you know the person, how personally you take the insult, or simply what mood you are in that day. Your friends may not always know how you are going to react, for that reason. Whatever you reaction, though, you will be logical, rational and unnervingly accurate: a measured strike.

Your daemon's form would represent your calm, introverted nature, your cool logic, and your impatience with crowds of people. He or she would probably whisper ironic comments in your ear, give logical advice and try to hide his or her soft side from everyone, even you.

Suggested forms:
Peregrine Falcon, Snowy Owl, Snow Leopard, Siberian Tiger, Osprey.

For a grin/laugh/bunnies:

Guys, I don't care whether you're a Supernatural fan or a Doctor Who fan or both, just please go over and take part in this great poll that lucythedragon put together comparing CASTIEL (SPN) and TEN (DW). It is hilarious, epic, and sorta creepy how much they have in common.

*shoos you*

And make sure to pimp it to your own f-list!

*blames aopt mightily*

made-by-me meme:

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- What I create will be just for you.
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- You will receive your item before the end of the year (or sooner).
- You will have no clue what the item is going to be. It could be a story or poetry. It could be a piece of handmade jewelery or an art doll. I may draw, paint, collage or knit something. I might bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to repost this meme and make and send out five surprises of your own.

Oh, and if I don't have your address and you're comfortable giving it to me, drop me an email or a PM or something.

I've put hours of work into this (I have to say that the description plaques had a surprising amount of grammatical errors) but I've finally finished it. My gallery of pictures from my recent museum trip with as many descriptions as I could manage.

I present to you...DUN DUN DUN: Excavating Egypt!
(along with a nifty mummy pic to whet your appetite)

Cool, huh? Though, I apologize if you can see me on the reflection of the glass, I couldn't do much about it with the light and prohibitions on flash photography.

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know? How many times have you felt guilty asking a close LJ friend a question that should be obvious?

Well, here's your chance!

If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me any thing. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before.

In turn, though, you must repost this in your own journal.
